Skilled Worker Visa Services at Highfin Solicitors

The Skilled Worker visa allows overseas nationals to live and work in the UK for an approved employer in an eligible role. At Highfin Solicitors, we provide clear, practical guidance to help applicants navigate the complexities of this visa route. Whether you’re an individual applicant or an employer seeking to sponsor overseas talent, our solicitors are here to ensure your application meets all Home Office requirements.

The Skilled Worker visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) work visa. It enables employers to sponsor non-UK nationals to work in skilled roles, provided specific criteria are met.

To apply for a Skilled Worker visa, you must:

  • Have a confirmed job offer from a UK employer with a sponsor licence
  • Be offered a role on the list of eligible occupations
  • Meet the English language requirements
  • Meet the salary threshold

The UK government introduced new salary thresholds in April 2024:

  • Standard Minimum Salary: £38,700 per year (or £15.88 per hour)
  • ‘Going Rate’ Requirement: You must earn at least £38,700 or the going rate for your role — whichever is higher. The going rate is now based on the median UK salary for your occupation.
  • New Entrants, certain PhD-qualified applicants, or those in roles on the Immigration Salary List: £30,960 per year
  • Health and Care Worker roles: £29,000 per year

The Skilled Worker route applies to a wide range of roles, including:

  • Healthcare professionals (nurses, doctors, care workers)
  • Engineers and IT specialists
  • Teachers (particularly in subjects like maths, physics, and computing)
  • Architects, social workers, and more

Skilled Worker visas are typically granted for up to 5 years. After 5 continuous years of lawful residence in the UK on this visa, you may be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
